AND THE WINNER IS..........

The pageant is over and she had fun. She looked beautiful and did a fantastic job up there. She said that she would never do that again. Not because she didn't win but because of how it affected alot of the other girls. She said that it was sorta fun pretending to be a lifesized Barbie but it was hard seeing her friends feelings get hurt.
I was so proud of her afterward. There were several girls crying, including her boyfriend's little sister. Amanda was comforting them and had most of them smiling by the time we all left. I didn't hear every conversation she had with them but I heard one. She hugged her friends and told them that it would be okay. "So what if two people in the whole world don't think that we looked beautiful enough to win at this particular moment. Those people don't matter anyway. They don't know any of us and were judging us based on a few minutes on a stage. So what? It doesn't matter what they think of us. What matters is what we think of ourselves. We all had the nerve to get up there in front of all those people and do this thing. That's something to be proud of. Not a one of us fell or puked! That's really something to be proud of. Everybody judges something or someone every day. They didn't do anything special so what does it matter what they think of any of us?"
How wise is a 14 year old suppose to be? At that moment I knew that I'm doing a good job raising a strong, smart, caring and compassionate young lady.

I got a WINNER!

You really do have a winner. It is so hard to be a teen-age girl in this world where unattainable appearance standards rule the media.

You're a fantastic mother!
